MEET DR. SHAWN HLAVATY
Dr. Shawn Hlavaty is pleased to bring his passion for helping patients achieve beautiful smiles to the Santa Barbara, Montecito, and Summerland areas. Before entering the world of dentistry, he spent 11 years as a landscape architect, but he felt he needed a change.
While in college, he had a job doing orthodontic lab work (building retainers and appliances), and needless to say, it sparked his curiosity. He decided to return to school to finish up a second undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of Utah. Dr. Shawn Hlavaty then attended dental school at New York University and completed his implant training through NYU in conjunction with the Oral Surgery Clinics at Bellevue Hospital and NYU Medical Center before settling in Santa Barbara where his parents and his grandparents grew up.
At his previous practice, Dr. Shawn Hlavaty specialized in implants, grafting, reconstruction cases, and cosmetic work. He’s now thrilled to open his own practice, where he can not only build beautiful smiles for his patients but also prioritize their needs in an inviting, spa-like environment. He’s a sought-after Santa Barbara dentist for everything from routine exams to complex reconstructive cases, partnering with each patient to help them achieve their goals.
In his spare time, Dr. Shawn Hlavaty enjoys hanging out with his wife and kids, traveling, off-roading, Onewheeling, snowboarding, mountain biking, playing guitar, or seeing live music.

On your first visit, you’ll be introduced to our spa-like office amenities and friendly front desk staff. Our team will help answer any questions you may have about your dental concerns, and you’ll head back to see Dr. Shawn Hlavaty. You and Dr. Shawn Hlavaty will discuss the health of your smile and potential options for additional treatments.

walk in the door until all your treatment is complete.”
“I
have been practicing for a long time and I see what people like and don’t like about the entire
experience,” explains Dr. Hlavaty. Fear of
the dentist keeps people from getting needed work done, so eliminatingthings that
trigger that fear is essential.
After doing a lot of research, Dr. Hlavaty transformed the dental environment and the
patient experience. No more small, cramped spaces with bulky equipment on the walls and ceilings.Instead, you walk into large spacious rooms with big-screen TVs, soothing décor, and plants. You can relax while enjoying the art on the walls or watch the overhead TVs. All
the equipment and drills are nicely tucked out of sight. You’ll never see large X-ray units on
swingarms, handheld portable units with low-dose radiation are used
instead.

- Intraoral cameras in every exam room, connected to large TVs to show you your results, allow Dr. Hlavaty to show you what he sees.
- Portable/handheld digital X-rays for convenience, comfort, and minimal radiation exposure.
- Intraoral cancer screening lights to identify any abnormal tissue development.
- Comfortable scaling with the latest, high-tech, microcomputer-controlled, automatic frequency tracking Piezo scalers to provide more stable performance while delivering ultimate patient comfort during cleanings.
- 3D intraoral scanners, so impressions with a mouth full of goo can be a thing of the past.
While we utilize extensive, innovative technology, each exam room is designed to be soothing and spacious. Various equipment pieces that may be required are kept out of view and only brought out as needed to maintain rooms that feel much more like a spa than a dental office.
